Comete

It’s St. Lawrence’s night: will you be able to realize your wishes by capturing the shooting stars before your friends do?

Comete marries cleverness and elegance in a way that few games manage to achieve. The rules are straightforward but about halfway your first game your decisions and those of your rival will make the situation more and more intriguing and exciting, clearing a sky of chances in front of you. Moreover, the cards evoke the mind-blowing and fascinating theme of the sky and unleash the collective imagination linked to the outer space and ancient myths and legends about shooting stars. Easy to learn but hard to master, this game will present a new challenge each and every game. Comete appeal to both hardcore boardgamers, but also to less experienced players: when the two gaming experiences are combined in a single game, every player can take advantage of different strategies and lucky draw-reveal sessions. Other highlights are:

  •  Highly Replayable: Comete is a very dynamic game that urges you to «think on your feet.» We still find ourselves enjoying and improving at the game after hundreds of plays.
  •  Focused: The unconventional set of Comete is intended to be a complete, deep play experience, with an interesting meta in and of itself. So it’s quick to pick up, and there’s no need to constantly add more cards to the mix to keep things interesting.
  •  Simple, quick setup: Just unroll the playmat, shuffle the deck, deal the gems and play. Unlike many deep games, you don’t need to separate or gather cards, set up piles, make decks, etc.
  •  Player Interaction: Comete is a race (e.g. Dominion, Lost Cities, Tea Time) that has also elements of confrontation (e.g. Azul, Patchwork, Keltis); it can be somehow considered as a balance of racing and interaction. The more interesting the game gets, the more tension between the players grows – we have seen games ranging from peaceful to highly aggressive, depending on the player’s style. Just keep in mind that your actions can come back to you if you waste your hard-gained resources: aggression will not always be your best playstyle. Many cards can cause you more harm than good if played unwisely.. Timing is everything.
