The first chapter of Ventura Battle System™, a tactical wargame for 2 players to recreate the battle of Fossalta in 1249
Italy, in the year 1249 AD. We are in the countryside between the Panaro River and Via Aemilia, an area that has long been the subject of territorial disputes between the cities of Bologna and Modena.
It is the dawn of May 26: the silence of the rural landscape is abruptly interrupted by the sound of a small group of horses galloping. It’s imperial soldiers, mostly from Cremona, and they are heading southeast along a dirt road.
King Enzius, son of Emperor Frederick II, is in Cremona as a representative of the empire: just last night he received the news that Modena was attacked by a militia formed by Bolognese, Ferrarese and papal soldiers. The decision to intervene was immediate; the Guelph attack cannot go unpunished.
What happens in the next hours will go down in history as the battle of Fossalta and the fate of King Enzius will change forever. Are you ready to travel through time?
The Fall of the King™ is a two-player wargame featuring the innovative Ventura Battle System™, which allows even beginners to approach free-form wargames. The game includes four epic Scenarios which accurately reconstruct the terrible battle of Fossalta, where the imperial Ghibelline troops led by King Enzius faced the Guelph militias of Bologna.
The Fall of the King™ includes some components localized in English (nothing too complex, mostly additional information useful especially for inexperienced players) such as, of course, the rulebook. The digital files, which can be purchased separately or included for free with the purchase of a physical copy of the game, are also available in Italian (and other languages may be added during the campaign). The files’ quality will also allow you to print your own copy, if you wish.
